“Leaders of the Teachers Union of Malawi,
Some teachers are wondering about the K500 monetary contributions, since it’s the time of reports and accountability.”
Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM), an umbrella body for teachers in the country, went on strike demanding that government pay them risk allowance apparently because they were at risk of catching Covid 19 in schools. TUM demanded that government must account for all Covid 19 funds. TUM’s call for financial accountability on government’s part ironically reflects TUM’s own lack of accountability with regard to membership fee that its members pay.
